My wife and I visited the Catskills and Woodstock, NY area to view the fall leaf color display in mid October and we had a great time. We live in Portland, OR and are both from the west coast and have never been back east for leaf peeping. It was an impressive display of color with different hues and intensities. Our forest is dominated by evergreen conifers and not like the deciduous forests of New York. We very much enjoyed the hikes to Overlook Mountain, Kaaterskill Falls, and around North and South Lake.
Woodstock is a charming village and we had an excellent vegan lunch at the Garden Cafe. We stayed at a very nice B&B in Fleischmanns, NY, called River Run. I would recommend that place for a quiet small village experience. The breakfast there is excellent! We also enjoyed Karma Triyana Dharmachakra Monastery and Church of the Holy Transfiguration of Christ-On- The-Mount, next to the KTD Monastery near the Overlook Mountain Trailhead. There is a lot of history, tons of hiking trails, and charming villages and beautiful scenery throughout the Catskills.
